Googling on how to become an action hero I found this! And what is better than to start with your children!
Raising a Hero
1. Start Small
Encourage children to be a positive bystander. Encourage them to be the one to stand up and say that bullying is wrong. Encourage them to befriend the victims of wrongful acts.
2. Label them Good
Children will respond better if we praise them by saying “What a good girl/boy you are for sharing your toys!” Instead of saying “It’s good to share your toys!” These positive labels will also instill in them a good self-image.
3. Get Physical
Research shows that real-life heroes have greater physical abilities and usually have specialized training which gives them the confidence to accomplish the task. For example, those with current CPR training are more likely to perform CPR than those who have not had training in a while.
4. Give them Responsibilities
Have your child take care of the animals, help with housework and so on. This will teach them at a young age the value of responsibility.
5. Be an Example in Action and Words
Kids will start out merely copying an adults actions, but with time this will begin to become like second nature and they will respond to a crisis situation without hesitation if they have seen an adult do the same.
6. Do not Always Pay
If the only motivation is an external motivation the child will be less likely to be motivated to help others when no external reward is apparent.
7. Do not Spank
Instead of spanking or swatting try other forms of discipline and then explain why the behavior is wrong and also the consequences of the behavior. Have the child play an active role in deciding punishement. REMEMBER, as the parent the ultimate veto power to whatever punishement the child suggests lies within your hands.
Children raised with love and in a loving environment are more likely to help others than those children who do not feel they are loved or worthy.
